According to his son, Ryan O’Neal, the well-known actor who shot to stardom in the early 1970s with his leading part in “Love Story,” has passed away. He was eighty-two.

O’Neal passed away on Friday, as per a post on Instagram by his son Patrick O’Neal, whom he had with Leigh Taylor-Young, his second wife.

Patrick O’Neal wrote, “So this is the toughest thing I’ve ever had to say but here we go.” “My dad passed away peacefully today, with his loving team by his side supporting him and loving him as he would us.”

O’Neal received a diagnosis of chronic myelogenous leukemia in 2001, followed in 2012 by a diagnosis of prostate cancer. It was unknown what caused the death.

According to Patrick O’Neal, his father was a “Hollywood legend.”


“My dad was a TV celebrity on “Peyton Place” when I was born in 1967. Patrick O’Neal stated, “That’s where he met my mom Leigh Taylor-Young.”

He cited his father’s ascent to global fame with “Love Story” and enumerated several more films that O’Neal featured in throughout the course of his thirty-year career, including “Paper Moon,” “What’s Up, Doc?,” “Barry Lyndon,” “A Bridge Too Far,” “The Main Event,” and “The Driver.”

According to Patrick O’Neal, O’Neal starred in “500 shows over 5 years,” which included three days a week as Rodney Harrison on “Peyton Place”.

Patrick O’Neal commented, “That’s a fact,” attributing his father’s influence to the “growth spurt of the first name Ryan”.

“Then of course the name Ryan peaked after ‘Love Story’ (the film that saved Paramount Studios and earned my dad a Star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame),” said Patrick O’Neal.

In a statement, the Hollywood Walk of Fame said that flowers will be put on actor Ryan O’Neal’s star today in his honor.

The Hollywood Walk of Fame star ceremonies’ producer, Ana Martinez, stated that O’Neal’s star, which he received in 2021, is adjacent to that of his “Love Story” co-star Ali MacGraw “and also next to the star of the love of his life Farrah Fawcett.”


O’Neal received nominations for the Academy Awards and Golden Globes for “Love Story,” in addition to his star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. He was also nominated for a Golden Globe for “Paper Moon.”

From 1979 to 1997, O’Neal was in a relationship with actress Farrah Fawcett. The two eventually broke up, although they got back together in 2001. They remained partners till Fawcett passed away in 2009.

On the social networking site X, an account belonging to the late Stanley Kubrick, the director of “Barry Lyndon,” expressed their “deep sadness upon learning of the passing of the 60-year-old, Oscar-nominated actor.” “We will never forget him as the adorable cad Barry Lyndon.”

Starring with O’Neal in “What’s Up, Doc?” and “The Main Event,” Barbra Streisand expressed her sadness upon learning of O’Neal’s passing.
